Step 1: Choose a view

At the top of the dashboard, select whether you want to view:

  • Provinces
  • Territories

Data collection and reporting approaches differ between provinces and territories. As a result, most indicators in the territories view are presented using three-month averages, while others remain monthly.

Employment by occupation dashboard

Step 1: Choose the occupation group or groups you want to view or compare

You can select and view or compare occupation groups in two ways.

Option 1: Use the colour-coded legend

Under Occupation Group on the right side of the dashboard, click on an occupation group name or colour in the legend.

When you click on an occupation group, a menu will appear with options such as:

  • “Keep Only” to display only that occupation group in the chart
  • “Exclude” to remove that occupation group from the chart

To compare multiple occupation groups, hold Ctrl (or Command on Mac) while clicking additional groups.

Option 2: Use the dropdown menu

You can also use the Occupation Group dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select one or more occupation groups.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of occupation groups.
  2. Check the boxes next to the occupation groups you want to display.
  3. Uncheck a box to remove an occupation group from the chart.
  4. Select (All) to display all occupation groups.

To clear selections and return to the default view, either you used option 1 or option 2, use the filter reset option: .

Step 2: Choose the geography or geographies you want to view or compare

You can use the Geography dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select one or more locations.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of geographies.
  2. Check the boxes next to the locations you want to display.
  3. Uncheck a box to remove a location from the chart.
  4. Select (All) to display all geographies.

To clear selections and return to the default view, either you used option 1 or option 2, use the filter reset option: .

Step 3: Choose the year you want to view

You can use the Year dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the year you want to display.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of available years.
  2. Select the year you want to view.
  3. The chart will automatically update to display the selected year.

Step 4: Choose the employment metric or metrics you want to view or compare

You can use the Employment metric dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the employment measure displayed in the chart.

Click the dropdown to open the list of available metrics.

  • Select “Employment Counts” to view the number of employed individuals in each occupation group for each province.
  • Select “Employment Proportions” to view the share of total employment in each occupation group for each province.

Vacancies by NOC and other characteristics dashboard

Step 1: Choose the job vacancy characteristics you want to view or compare

You can use the colour-coded legend on the right side of the dashboard to select the Job vacancy characteristics displayed in the chart. 

Click on a characteristic name or colour in the legend to interact with the data.

When you click a characteristic, a menu will appear with options such as:

  • “Keep Only” to display only that characteristic in the chart
  • “Exclude” to remove that characteristic from the chart

To compare multiple characteristics, hold Ctrl (or Command on Mac) on your keyboard while clicking additional selections.

Step 2: Choose which geography you want to view

You can use the Geography filter on the right side of the dashboard to select the location you want to display. 

Select one geography at a time, such as Canada, a province, or a territory.

Step 3: Choose which category you want to view

You can use the Category filter on the right side of the dashboard to choose how job vacancies are grouped in the chart.

Select one of the following options:

  • Education type
  • Experience level
  • Type of position
  • Type of work

Step 4: Choose which job vacancy or vacancies you want to view or compare 

You can use the Job vacancy characteristics dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the characteristics displayed in the chart.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of available characteristics.
  2. Check the boxes next to the characteristics you want to display.
  3. Uncheck a box to remove a characteristic from the chart. Select “All levels” to display all available characteristics.

Step 5: Choose which major Occupation Group you want to view or compare 

You can use the Major Occupation group dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the occupation groups displayed in the chart.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of available occupation groups.
  2. Check the boxes next to the occupation groups you want to display.
  3. Uncheck a box to remove an occupation group from the chart.
  4. Select “Total, all occupations” to display all occupation groups.

Step 6: Choose which Occupation level (NOC length) you want to view

You can use the Occupation level (NOC length) dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the level of occupational detail displayed in the chart.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of available options. Select the Occupation level (NOC length) you want to display.
  2. Select “Total, all occupations” to display all occupations.

Step 7: Choose which Occupations you want to view

You can use the Occupation (NOC) dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the occupations displayed in the chart.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of available options. Select the occupations you want to display.
  2. Select “Total, all occupations” to display all occupations.

Step 8: Adjust the time period

You can change the time period shown in the chart using the Date range filter on the right side of the dashboard.

Option 1: Use the calendar selector
  1. Click on the date field to open the calendar.
  2. Select the start or end date you want to display.
  3. The chart will automatically update to reflect the selected time period.
Option 2: Use the slider
  1. Drag the left or right handles to shorten or extend the time range.
  2. Move the slider to focus on a specific period in the chart.

Step 9: Hover over the chart for more detail

Move your mouse over any point on a line to see more information!

The hover tool will display:

  • The geography name
  • The occupation group
  • The occupation 
  • The category
  • The job vacancy characteristics
  • The quarter and year
  • The exact value
