Understanding walkthrough

This guide shows you how to move through the different Youth Employment dashboard views, apply filters, adjust views, and interact with charts and data tables.

Employment by occupation dashboard

Step 1: Choose the occupation group or groups you want to view or compare

You can select and view or compare occupation groups in two ways.

Option 1: Use the colour-coded legend

Under Occupation Group on the right side of the dashboard, click on an occupation group name or colour in the legend.

When you click on an occupation group, a menu will appear with options such as:

  • “Keep Only” to display only that occupation group in the chart
  • “Exclude” to remove that occupation group from the chart

To compare multiple occupation groups, hold Ctrl (or Command on Mac) while clicking additional groups.

Option 2: Use the dropdown menu

You can also use the Occupation Group dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select one or more occupation groups.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of occupation groups.
  2. Check the boxes next to the occupation groups you want to display.
  3. Uncheck a box to remove an occupation group from the chart.
  4. Select (All) to display all occupation groups.

To clear selections and return to the default view, either you used option 1 or option 2, use the filter reset option: .

Step 2: Choose the geography or geographies you want to view or compare

You can use the Geography dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select one or more locations.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of geographies.
  2. Check the boxes next to the locations you want to display.
  3. Uncheck a box to remove a location from the chart.
  4. Select (All) to display all geographies.

To clear selections and return to the default view, either you used option 1 or option 2, use the filter reset option: .

Step 3: Choose the year you want to view

You can use the Year dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the year you want to display.

  1. Click the dropdown to open the list of available years.
  2. Select the year you want to view.
  3. The chart will automatically update to display the selected year.

Step 4: Choose the employment metric or metrics you want to view or compare

You can use the Employment metric dropdown menu on the right side of the dashboard to select the employment measure displayed in the chart.

Click the dropdown to open the list of available metrics.

  • Select “Employment Counts” to view the number of employed individuals in each occupation group for each province.
  • Select “Employment Proportions” to view the share of total employment in each occupation group for each province.
